Welcome to Saguaro National Park
Located in the south of Arizona, with approximately 92,000 acres of the Sonoran Desert, Tucson Mountains and Rincon Mountains, this park was named after the Saguaro cactus or Carnegiea gigantea which is a very apt name considering it is the largest cactus in the world. Saguaro National Monument was created on March 1, 1933 by President Herbert Hoover being the first national park set aside to protect a particular species in this case the saguaro. On October 14, 1994, Congress and President Bill Clinton elevated Saguaro to National Park status.
